Saturday May 1st: 2010 Pro Challenge #2

The winners of the challenge event have been drawn and this may be our best match up to date! This event will be held this Saturday May 1st, 2010.

Local Pierre guide/manager of Cherokee Charters Mike Fahey is the latest winner of The Fishing Crew Pro Challenge event. Mike whom is the manager of his son’s walleye guiding business Cherokee Charters will be fishing with his son, Steve Fahey, the owner of Cherokee Charters.

Mike has been fishing the Missouri River system his entire life. Born and raised in Pierre, SD, Mike grew up fishing with his father as a child then bought his first boat in 1983, his son Steve also inherited the itch to fish and both Mike and Steve have supplemented their incomes with the unbelievable fishing resource the Pierre area and its residents have been blessed with.

I spoke with Mike this morning and he says the bite is on! He has been fishing quite a bit lately and because the Bad River is mucking up down river waters, most of the boats have been concentrated in a few areas. He says the nets are on full time as the fish have the feed bags on. Female walleyes are hard to come buy, but both the Challenge on Saturday and the tournament on Sunday can be won with the right hook-ups on these males, but if someone figures out the females, the weights will be really impressive.

Mike and Steve do have a game plan and it consists of their favorite tactic, jigging! Mike being slightly more old school will stick with a jig and a minnow, where Steve will be fishing with a jig and plastics. I myself can’t wait to watch the film and see who out fishes who!

I asked Mike what effect the cold front and storms that are projected for late this week will have on the fish, and he doesn’t feel it will matter to much. Monday a cold front with rain went through and it didn’t see to bother the fish to much and Lake Sharpe historically doesn’t seem to be effected by the fronts quite as much as larger reservoirs and lakes. He says the Pro’s, Doug Iverson and Kenny Steiner will have their hands full, be he also knows Doug and Kenny will not fail to produce a good limit so everyone is looking forward to a great friendly match up!

All the fisherman both the Pros and the Challengers all know each other well as they have competed in numerous tournament on numerous bodies of waters over the years, this will be one you don’t want to miss!!

Mike also informed me that he was signed up to fish a tournament this weekend on Lake Angostura that he was really looking forward to, but when the opportunity came up to fish this event, he jumped all over it. He loves the format, loves the concept, and loves the idea of proceeds going to benefit CureKids Cancer.

Doug Iverson’s undefeated record both as a Pro and a Challenger in all of his The Fishing Crew Pro Challenge events is definitely on the line!

Check back for results and good luck to all the fisherman this weekend.
